Ext2 IFS for Microsoft Windows
by admin on Aug.16, 2009, under Linux Blerg
Sometimes if you have a laptop and while you are traveling with lack of sleep and oops…. while on root access you accidentally delete the /usr/lib folder on your linux installation and GOD! this laptop doesn’t have a CD-ROM!.
What should you do then? if you build a dual boot system of Microsoft Windows and Linux, then maybe you can recover or backup at least the essential file in your linux partition from your Microsoft Windows OS by installing Ext2 IFS for windows (if you build your linux box under ext2 or ext3 if you are using other type of format then you are out of luck).
Installation of Ext2 IFS for windows is pretty straight forward, just download the file. and the installation will go automatically.
If you are using ext3 file system, the only catch is Ext2 IFS will only read the partition if it’s cleanly unmounted. otherwise it won’t read the partition to avoid journal corruption.
For more information about the ext3 filesystem mounting using Ext2 IFS, please read the faq section for ext3
Hope this information can help you solve the problem in your linux partition or save the important data to your windows partition before fixing or even rebuilding your linux box.
