Sakura — The Mighty tabbeb terminal
First of all, I am a lightweight fanatics who try to get every software in my computer as small and fast as possible, as for terminal emulator, Usually I goes with aterm and gladly to report you that aterm is FAST!.
Aterm can be ugly or beautiful, it depends on how did you configure it. but … hey this page isnt about aterm
its about SAKURA!.
To get things going, sakura is somehow similar to gnome-terminal, quoting from its homepage “sakura is a terminal emulator based on GTK and VTE. It’s a terminal emulator with few dependencies” and YES, gnome terminal also uses VTE and GTK but with extra baggage of gnome humongous dependencies as an added bonus.
Well Sakura doesn’t need any gnome dependencies, just plain GTK will do fine. so it makes it very light and fast (something that proves gnome is pure bloated software).
Its very easy to install it in your gentoo system, its already in portage so you just do :
emerge -va x11-terms/sakura
and voila it will fetch, compile and install it for you.
just some screenshot shamelessly taken from the sakura home page, click on it if you want to visit the sakura homepage:
